How will IIM in Himachal Pradesh help Education Sector in the State.

The announcement of this year’s Union Budget definitely brought solace to a lot of people. It is of no surprise that the education system in our country has always been biased. No budget till this date has managed to satisfy, or at least provide the basic needs to every strata of our society. Surprisingly, when the Union Budget was announced this year, people were enthralled to see that all sectors and most importantly the education sector has been paid great attention.

If we take a closer look at the education sector, it has been covered end to end by the new government, hence being in the favour of students belonging to every age group. Speaking of students, did you hear that the new government has decided to set up new IITs and IIMs across the country and the most amazing fact is that Himachal Pradesh has also been slated for a brand new IIM very soon?

In the field of education, Himachal Pradesh often felt left out as compared to other states in the country. There has always been a lack of ample sources of higher education here and the addition of one of the top MBA colleges in Himachal Pradesh is definitely a feather in their cap. IIM is the premium institute of higher education in our country and has always attracted a very large number of students as well. Now that Himachal Pradesh is getting its own IIM in the land of the lords, we can expect to see a huge revolution taking place in the education sector of this beautiful state.

Himachal is always known for its tourism and now the state will also be famous for housing one of the country’s Top MBA colleges in Himachal Pradesh. The youth in Himachal Pradesh have always struggled to find a place across all the premium institutions in the country since it is not at all easy to compete with the entire nation. But now the youth of Himachal Pradesh will find it comparatively easier to crack the examinations and take a seat in this highly- regarded institute of our country.

The state is yet to decide on the actual place for setting up this institute. Since some of the best educational institutes are already there in some parts of the state, districts such as Chamba, Bilaspur, Kullu and Sirmaur are expected to house this premium management institute in the state

Not only will this new IIM become a great opportunity to the students, rather it will also help in boosting the local economy of the state. Also, since the state already has some of the best universities and institutions, the arrival of an IIM will improve the quality of the education hub in the state as well.

Literacy Rates in India

Literacy rate is a very important factor for economic and Social upliftment or development. Recent study reveals that India’s Literacy levels have increased to 74% which is a six time increase over last census. However is it interesting to note that India’s Literacy rate is significantly less than World average literacy rates of 84%.

In India, Kerala has the highest Literacy with 93.9%, followed by Mizoram with 91.6%, Tripura - 87.8%, Goa - 87.4%, Himachal Pradesh - 83.8% . Of all Top 5 states with highest literacy levels, Himachal Pradesh Literacy programs seem to be more impressive as compared to Kerala model.

Himachal Pradesh has experienced a Schooling Revolution during the long period of 1961–2001. Kerala tops the graph of literacy rates since the 19th century (over 150 years), whereas Himachal Pradesh literacy rates in 1961 were below the national average in every age group.

In these 3 decades of time between 1961–1991 period, female literacy in the 15–19 years age group went up from 11% to 86%. School attendance for both boys and girls in the 6–14-year age group stood at over 97% each when measured in the 1998–99 school year.
We believe that it is not just the efforts of the Govt., but also of the people of Himachal who stood hand in hand for upliftment of a society as whole. Himachal Government’s initiative of compulsory Schooling has tremendously supported this social cause. With Private Institutions further raising the quality of Education in the state, it will be intersting to watch the Literacy rates in the times to come.
